Anna Badimo, South Africa
I am doing a PhD Computer Science (BioInformatics) at Wits University specialising in recombination detection in HIV-1. I am the co-founder of Linuxchix Africa and have been working in the Linux environment for three years. I am also on the WSIS Telecentres, Digital Divide Network, Gender Caucus, as well as the APC-Africa Women's Network and the Free and Open Source For Africa (FOSSFA) Council.
Provided it is deployed correctly, I believe that ICT can be used as a leverage for development, and in particular, for addressing the day-to-day challenges that women face. And therefore my interests have been to look at innovative ways in which ICT can be used not only as an enabler of innovation and entrepreneurship, but as an anchor for sustainable livelihoods.
