Deborah Akinwande, Nigeria
I am a volunteer working with the Fantsuam Foundation, Kafanchan, Nigeria (http://www.fantsuam.org), rural-based, non-profit organisation aimed at pioneering gender and youth-focused micro-finance and ICT-focused services. I am also an ICT enthusiast with growing experience in Network Engineering and Web Development and Solar technology development like the "mini-solar" and Solar Operating (SOLO) computer.
At the Foundation, the Kafanchan Linux User Group (KAFLUG), of which I am a founding member and one such example of the Foundations initiatives, has had the opportunity of observing firsthand the benefits of FOSS implementation and the issues related in a developing rural community through the active deployment of the Linux OS distributions and Thin-Client systems, its operations in the Micro-finance departments and the positive interest it has generated in the community. Our interest in this Meet includes a study of the impact of rural-community-based campaigns on ICT.
