Patrice Riemens, Netherlands

Created by: patrice

Patrice Riemens (NL and ... MC!, 1950) is a free floating 'private intellectual' with a somewhat haphazard background in academia and culture. Self-styled 'Internet activist' and allegedly part of the 'Dutch hackers movement', Patrice is travelling around, disseminating information (French people call him a 'passeur') and 'maintaining contacts'. Near illiteracy on the tech front (zero coding proficiency, no computer at home, no GSM, not even a TV set!) has not preventing him from liaising with all kind of people and groups campaining for a beter 'digital e-cology' and battling translocally the onslaught of corporate-driven obscurantism and oppression both in the realm of ICT and in society at large. Patrice is officially a (actually, 'the') 'Fellow' of the Waag Society (formerly 'for the Old and New Media') in Amsterdam. He's also rumoured to be the inhouse 'F/OSSopher' of the Tactical Technology Collective.
